As a service to our patients, Saint Francis Medical Center submits our bills to your insurance company, Medicare or Medicaid. We will do everything possible to expedite your claim.
Your Medical Center bill includes all of the services you received during your stay. Charges fall into two categories:
- A basic daily rate that includes your room, meals, nursing care, housekeeping, etc.
- Charges for special services, including physician ordered items and procedures or tests, such as X-rays and laboratory tests.
You may be billed separately by physician specialists for professional services you received during your stay at Saint Francis. These specialists may include:
- Pathologists
- Radiologists
- Cardiologists
- Anesthesiologists
- Radiation oncologists
- Others who are required to submit separate bills to you

No Surprise Billing!
“Balance billing,” or “surprise billing,” is an unexpected balance bill that can happen when a patient cannot control who is involved in their care — like when they have an emergency or when they schedule a visit at an in-network facility but are unexpectedly treated by an out-of-network provider. HMO / PPO Billing
Please remember your insurance policy is a contract between you and your insurance carrier. If you have an health maintenance organization (HMO) or preferred provider organization (PPO), you may have special requirements for certain tests or procedures. Additionally, some physicians may not participate in your healthcare plan and their services may not be covered. It is your responsibility to make sure the requirements of your plan are met. If you fail to meet your plan requirements, you may be financially responsible for all or part of the services you receive at the Medical Center. Call your HMO or PPO if you have any questions.
Medicare Billing
If you are covered by Medicare, bring your card with you to verify eligibility. Medicare specifically excludes payment for certain items and services, such as:
- Cosmetic surgery
- Some oral surgery procedures
- Personal comfort items
- Some self-administered drugs in an outpatient or overnight stay
You are responsible for all Medicare deductibles and co-payments. If you have questions about your coverage under Medicare, call 800-MEDICARE (633-4227).
Medicaid Billing
If you are covered by Medicaid, bring your card with you to verify eligibility. Medicaid has payment limitations on a number of services and items, such as the cost of a private room (unless medically necessary). Payment Policy
